Signs Your Tree May Have A Disease

How To Identify And Address Common Manhattan Tree Illnesses

While tree diseases are common than most people imagine, one of the most important factors is learning to know the important signs a tree displays when it is diseased. Many Manhattan tree companies have revealed that earlier detection of tree disease can play an important role in affecting spread of the disease which may eventually kill it off.

Signs and SYMPTOMS of Disease

To ensure that you get the most care for your trees, below are some of the commonest signs and symptoms indicating the presence of a disease on you tree.

Seeping fluid

If you come across your tree seeping fluid that possess alcoholic slime flux, this may be a major sign of disease activity. In extreme cases of fluid seepage, the fluid may pool around the root or base of the tree and may possess a characteristic sour odor and in most cases leaves dark steaks down the bark of the tree. When such development as this is noted, it is recommended that you speak to your tree service expert to look into the possible solutions to administer.

Hard, Gray growths

The Fomes fomentarius is a fungus that is known to damage trees like Cherry, Hickory, Birch, Maple and more. In the event of infection, this fungus exhibits its presence in the form of a hard, hoof-shaped structure which appears gray in color. On the basal side of the structure, the fungus displays millions of white, tiny pores. It is recommended that once the Fomes fomentarius is noticed, it should be removed/detached from the tree as soon as possible.

Peeling Bark

One of the commonest symptoms of a diseased tree is peeling bark. The bark on the tree plays an important role of protecting the inner core or trunk from disease attacks while also helping it stay protected from external attacks. However, if the bark starts to peel, the tree may be unable to maintain necessary nutrients for growth and normal functioning and may soon die off. However, peeling bark should not be misconstrued for the occasional bark peeling which is associated with growth of the tree.

Black Flower of shoots

The Fire Blight is a common disease affecting more than 100 plants, tree inclusive. When your tree begins to display signs of fire blight, the shoots or flowers begin to turn black and following the infection, they tend to bend out of shape and proportion. This symptom is typically manifested weeks after your tree and plants have been infected.

Light Brown Shelves

The Inonotus dryadeus fungus is one that causes rotting in trees like Oaks. The fungus is known to cause stunted branch growth and over time spreads from the apical part to the base of the tree where it forms large, light brow shelves near the soil. Over a period of time, when left unattended to, the shelves become hardened, turn black and may cause the infected trees to fall off. When noticed, it is recommended that you call on your tree service expert to look into the matter and remove the growth.
